Jonathan Gordon
has worked on marine mammals and marine conservation issues
for the last 25 years. He obtained his PhD, on the behaviour and ecology
sperm whale off Sri Lanka, from Cambridge University in 1987 and then ran a
research boat (a specially adapted 46' ketch) as a research vessel for the
International Fund for Animal Welfare until 2000 completing projects in the
Azores, Mediterranean, Hebrides and the Caribbean. Many approaches and
techniques, especially the use of passive acoustics to detect cetaceans during
surveys and for mitigation were pioneered during these early projects.
From 1996-99 Jonathan Gordon was part of the team that developed a passive
acoustic monitoring system for use during seismic surveys. (Click
